Associations between personality, sports participation and athletic success. A comparison of Big Five in sporting and non-sporting adults

Abstract The present study investigates whether the Big Five personality traits are different among diverse sports populations. A sample of 881 male athletes and non-athletes completed a self-report questionnaire measuring their personality traits. The Exploratory Structure Equation Modeling (ESEM) approach is adopted to test measurement invariance and mean differences among groups. The results indicate that athletes who had experienced the most success in their sport scored higher than non-athletes in each personality dimension of the Big Five, with the exception of openness, while less successful athletes scored higher than non-athletes only in extraversion and agreeableness. Abstract In this study, we were proposed to investigate aspects concerning the manifestation of the students’ emotional intelligence, namely the extent to which the adolescents possess a series of capacities proper to emotional intelligence. Wayne Leon Payne defines emotional intelligence as being the ability which implies a creative relation with states of anxiety, pain and desire. Based on previous investigation, research has revealed the implications of music therapy in women, intercultural groups, and the cultivation of identity and emotional stability. However, the research conducted on the amalgamation of these factors is deficient. The purpose of this case study is to explore the effects of music therapy on the emotional stabilization and development of identity in an intercultural group of women.
